If you hadn't noticed yet that I'm a fan of Donnie Wahlberg and the band NKOTB (New Kids On The Block), with this gallery, I guess there isn't any doubt left. Yes, NKOTB Blockhead and proud! ;)
I'm above all a "Donnie girl" but there will also be portraits of the other members of NKOTB, i.e. Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre and Danny Wood, in the future because I love all of them. Hence the name of that gallery. Official website: www.nkotb.com

This drawing is made as an exercise: turning a low resolution picture into a realistic portrait. The reference picture I'm using here is from an MTV event that took place in 1991: MTV Rock 'n' Jock Basketball.
Little explanation about the background:
I first wanted to keep the drawing "simple" but once the portrait of Donnie was completed, I felt it looked a little empty. I wanted to include the MTV Rock 'n' Jock Basketball logo but didn't have enough space around Donnie's face to make it in a similar way as what I did for the NYPD logo in the portrait of Danny Reagan (see drawing "Donnie Wahlberg #2"). So, I chose to use a part of a picture of Donnie and his brother Mark Wahlberg, known as Marky Mark at that time, who also participated at that MTV event.

3rd drawing of the series "Top 3 reasons I love Donnie Wahlberg": Band Of Brothers
When I first heard of "Band Of Brothers", I knew I had to watch it because of its subject. I knew nothing about the cast so imagine my surprise when Donnie Wahlberg appeared on screen! I already knew Donnie had become an actor after New Kids On The Block had disbanded and I had seen him in "Ransom" but his part of C. Carwood Lipton in "Band Of Brothers" made me realize that my favorite New Kid was also an amazing actor. So, to end the series of drawings, I chose to illustrate one of my favorite scenes from "Band Of Brothers", from the episode "The Breaking Point"

2nd drawing of the series "Top 3 reasons I love Donnie Wahlberg": Blue Bloods
Why "Blue Bloods"? First, because it's a great TV show and Donnie, who plays Danny Reagan, is excellent in it. And who doesn't have a soft spot for a man in uniform? Just kidding ;) Second reason: if it wasn't for that show and my sister watching a few episodes of it, I probably still wouldn't know about the NKOTB reunion. I still have a lot of catching up to do about the last 4 years but the more I watch/listen to interviews and videos, the more I love Donnie Wahlberg and NKOTB. Hence "Blue Bloods" as the 2nd reason.
All the steps of the work in progress are available in the item "Donnie Wahlberg (Blue Bloods), May 2012", in the "Television" gallery.

1st drawing of the series "Top 3 reasons I love Donnie Wahlberg": New Kids On The Block
I've already explained a few things about the drawing itself when it was first posted in the "Music" gallery so I'm just going to add a few things about NKOTB.
I've always loved listening to New Kids On The Block because there's something about their music that just makes me feel good. I'll gladly admit that some of the old songs are "cheesy pop" but as long as I keep smiling everytime I'm singing along to "Cover Girl" or "You got it (the right stuff)", why should I really care? I've also been listening to the album "Step by Step" for more than 20 years and I'm still loving it as much as I did when I bought it. The album made after the reunion of the band, "The Block" is definitely more grown up and I love it, too. So, to sum up, I loved them back then and I still do. Good reason to make a drawing, isn't it?
