Step #2 is an intermediary step to show you what the drawing looks like after the 4 first colors are applied. For color portraits done with Faber-Castell Polychromos, I usually follow that order for the skin: 132 Light flesh, 186 Terracotta, 188 Sanguine, 283 Burnt Siena (last color applied in Step #2), 280 Burnt Umber, 131 Medium Flesh, 189 Cinnamon and then, depending on the drawing: 190 Venetian Red, 160 Manganese Violet, 103 Ivory. I also sometimes use 109 Dark chrome yellow and 111 Cadmium orange when there are yellow-ish highlights.
